Stitch It Group expands presence in U.S. market
BURLINGTON – A local company is planning a major expansion drive into the United States.
The Stitch It Group, which bills itself as Canada’s only national alterations chain, said yesterday it will open nine new stores in high profile shopping malls around Chicago.
“We see Chicago as a great opportunity to contineue our expansion in the United States,” said company president and founder Alain Baird.
Established 18 years ago as a sideline to Baird’s clothing store, Stitch It provides alterations such as hemming pants and sleeves, taking-in seams, tapering cuffs and clothing and zipper repair with an emphasis on quick turnaround.
With 86 locations in Canada, the company started it American expansion in 2001 with four locations in the Minneapolis-St.Paul area. The Chicago outlets will bring its American presence to 16 stores.
