Stitch It finds ‘the perfect fit’ with CNIB

Released: November 15, 2009

Corporate philanthropy mutually beneficial, even in a challenging economy

Toronto – On the cusp of National Philanthropy Day, November 15, 2009, Stitch It re-affirms its commitment to CNIB. Even through a challenging economy Stitch It continues to show support for CNIB in communities across Canada, by providing funds and generating awareness about CNIB`s programs and services targeted to people who are blind or partially sighted.

Stitch It is Canada`s only national clothing alteration chain offering complete clothing alteration services at their 99 locations in local communities across Canada. These locations donate 10 per cent of the proceeds from product wall sales to support CNIB`s vision health services and programs in each community. To date, Stitch It has donated $20,000 to CNIB, the first part of a pledge of $100,000 over five years. Stitch It`s partnership with CNIB is an essential part of our corporate social responsibility program. Eye health is top of mind for all Stitch It employees and associates, says Alain Baird, Founder and President, Stitch It. We are not only donating funds to the cause but also sharing information on eye health directly with our in-store customers. In Canada there are over 836,000 people who have vision loss; of which 75 per cent of is avoidable. Current projections indicate that with our aging population, this number will increase dramatically over the coming years. Through direct programs and services, research, advocacy and public education, CNIB provides support for all Canadians affected by vision loss.

“Like CNIB, Stitch It is a national organization with significant presence at the local level. Their ongoing support has helped CNIB provide the confidence, skills and opportunities for people who are blind or partially sighted to fully participate in life,” says John M. Rafferty, President and CEO, CNIB. During times of economic challenge, partnerships between corporate organizations and charities are even more important. Contributions from organizations like Stitch It allow us to provide over 485,000 hours of service to our clients each year.
